It is a fact that many of us are, unfortunately, not blessed with perfect vision. Those of us who fit this bill are often very envious of those who can see and read easily without needing help. In fact, it would be a miracle to not have to worry about the problems that having poor vision brings with it! History is filled with inventions that have been designed to decrease the disability brought about by poor vision, however the two most influential and helpful have been glasses and contact lenses.
The problem with reading glasses
Reading glasses were the staple of those with poor vision for a very long time. They went through different incarnations and fashions, but essentially they have always been a very popular way of correcting vision. However, glasses definitely have their downside. Glasses can become scratched, they can get broken easily, and they can be lost. Many people have had the experience of losing their glasses and not being able to find them because it has been too hard to see where they are looking without their trusty glasses! Because of the inconvenience that glasses sometimes offer, it is not surprising that many people continued to try to create a solution that was more practical.
Contact lenses the solution!
This is how the invention of contact lenses came about. We might take contact lenses for granted these days, but they really are an amazing invention. They are a solution to many of the problems that glasses present. Once they are inserted into the eye, contact lenses can not be easily scratched, broken or lost. They tend to be quite safe and snug underneath the eyelid, and most people have little issue with them when they are there.
Of course, contact lenses are not perfect, and do have their downside. Some people complain that contact lenses can be uncomfortable when they are being worn. However, this is often due to insufficient lubrication, and can be solved easily with eye drops. Contact lenses can, occasionally, fall out of the eye, but this is very rare, and much less likely to happen than having your glasses fall from your head! Some people do have problems with inserting the contact lens into the eye, but this is usually solved with a bit of practice everyone will find a different way to insert the contact lens that is quick and comfortable for them, they just need to practice doing it! Contact lenses are like anything else they have their pros and their cons. But in this case, the pros far outweigh the cons!
So, how do you know if contact lenses are for you?
If you have poor vision of any type, you should consider the option of contact lenses. There are contact lenses for any type of vision problem, such as near or far sightedness. They can be prescribed to fit your exact needs, just like with glasses, so do not think that you are not eligible or that they will not fit your needs. More and more people are turning to contact lenses every day, so there is obviously something to this contact lens craze! If you are the sort of person who finds glasses irritating, then contact lenses could be the perfect solution for you. If you sometimes forget to take your glasses with you when you need them, and find yourself unable to see properly, then contact lenses could be a great solution. When you are in the habit of putting them in every morning, you are not likely to be caught in that sort of situation again. If your glasses pinch your nose, or your temples, they can be not only irritating, but very painful too. Many people develop head aches from wearing uncomfortable reading glasses, and this is obviously not a good thing. Contact lenses will eradicate these sorts of problems that glasses create. Because the contact lens simply sits in your eye there is no danger of them pinching anywhere else on your face.
The humble contact lens is actually much more important in the modern era than many people realize. There are millions of people across the world who rely on contact lenses every day to help them live an easier life. The thought of living without contact lenses would be awful to many of these people! They no longer have to rely on fragile, uncomfortable reading glasses to help them with their day-to-day needs, instead they have something that is very small, lightweight, and invisible to get them through with ease. Reading glasses might have been all the rage for a very long time, but contact lenses are here to stay, and ready to take over as the leader of the optical world!
